Antibody

Y-shaped gamma globulin proteins produced by B cells defence against unrecognised agents, made up of large heavy chains and small light chains.

Antigen

Substances that recognized as non-self stimulating the production of an antibody that specifically reacts with it.

Affinity

Specific strength of binding of an antibody - antigen bond

Avidity

Overall strength of binding of an antibody - antigen bonds

T cells

T-cells can only connect to virus antigens on the outside of infected cells.

B cells

B-cells can connect to antigens right on the surface of the invading virus or bacteria.
